The reinforcer used to make reinforced composites is mainly fiber. There are many kinds of fibers, glass fiber, carbon fiber and aramid fiber are used for reinforcement and modification.
 
 
 
1、 Glass fiber
 
 
 
Glass fiber reinforcement is the most widely used material reinforcement method. According to the chemical composition, glass fibers can be divided into alkali free aluminoborosilicate (alkali free fiber) and alkali free borosilicate (medium alkali fiber for short). As a reinforcing material, glass fiber has the following advantages: hard and impermeable, no decay and mildew, heat resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, high tensile strength, ideal elasticity and excellent electrical properties. Glass fiber can be used to strengthen PP, pet, PA, PC and other thermoplastic plastics, and also widely used in thermosetting plastics.

Glass fiber reinforced plastics have the advantages of high specific strength, corrosion resistance, heat insulation, dielectric and easy molding. The tensile strength of glass fiber reinforced thermosetting plastics is up to 100 MPa, which is similar to that of common steel, and the face to face density is only 1 / 4 of that of steel. Glass fiber reinforced PP has been widely used in automobile parts, household appliances, aircraft manufacturing industry and so on. The interface bonding between glass fiber and polypropylene matrix has a great influence on the mechanical properties of the composites. Coupling agent is usually used to treat the composites or graft polypropylene is used to compatibilize.

2、 Carbon fiber

Carbon fiber is made of polyacrylonitrile fiber, viscose or pitch precursor by carbonization. Due to different raw materials and manufacturing methods, the strength and modulus of carbon fiber are different. The relative density of carbon fiber is 1.3-1.8, while the relative density of glass fiber is about 2.5; the tensile strength, bending strength and modulus of carbon fiber reinforced composite are significantly higher than those of glass fiber reinforced composite.
 
 
 
The thermal expansion coefficient of carbon fiber is low, and the shrinkage of carbon fiber composite is 1 / 2 of glass fiber reinforced material and 1 / 5 of that of unreinforced resin. Carbon fiber reinforced composite is a new type of composite material with light and high strength. It is not only widely used in aviation and aerospace industry, but also used in sports and daily necessities. Carbon fiber also has the characteristics of high temperature resistance and electrical conductivity, which can be used for electrostatic spraying and preparation of antistatic parts.
 
 
 
Carbon fiber can be used in PC, PC / ABS, PA, PP, PE and other thermoplastic, as well as epoxy resin and other thermosetting plastics.
 
 
 
Due to the high price, carbon fiber is mainly used in automobile, aircraft and military industry. Aramid fiber reinforced composites (such as aramid / epoxy composites) have been successfully used in aerospace, aircraft, ships, armored equipment, sporting goods, pressure vessels, electric strict communication and other fields. Aramid fiber can also be used in tire radial. The tire made of aramid fiber can bear high load and has the lightest weight.
