Basalt fiber VS Glass fiber

Basalt fiber and glass fiber belong to inorganic fiber, and the material composition and production technology are very close. Alkali free glass fiber has many years of history and mature production technology, and has a wide range of products, large output and wide range of applications, which has gone deep into all aspects of life. At present, the basalt fiber market is still in the initial development stage and has good development space. At present, it is the fourth key fiber variety developed by the state after carbon fiber, aramid fiber and ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene.


Compared with basalt fiber and glass fiber:


1. The production processes of the two are similar. They are drawn through the leakage plate after melting, and the subsequent processes are basically the same. However, basalt fiber eliminates the proportion of glass fiber cost, so the production process is shorter and simpler than the process.


2. Basalt fiber is rich in raw materials, but due to the inconsistent content of basalt stones in various places, the basalt fiber produced cannot reach an agreed production standard. In terms of performance stability, glass fiber has good stability.


3. Basalt fiber production has high requirements for equipment and large wear. Usually, the glass fiber leakage plate can be used for 6 months, but the service life of basalt fiber leakage plate is only 3-5 months. With the in-depth provision of technology and research and development, this disadvantage will be improved in the future.


4. In the practical application of basalt fiber in composite materials, the mechanical properties of the product are higher than E glass fiber, the alkali resistance can be comparable with that of alkali resistant glass fiber, and the high temperature resistance is no less than s glass fiber. In addition, basalt fiber has more advantages in roving, textile department, knitted felt and heat insulation.


5. The production process of basalt fiber is more environmentally friendly and safer. In addition, basalt fiber has natural ultraviolet radiation resistance and high temperature resistance, and can maintain good performance and acid and alkali resistance at low temperature. Therefore, chopped yarn has more advantages in concrete than steel fiber, glass fiber and polyester fiber.
