The optimum suitable length of asphalt mixture with basalt fiber should be determined by the following tests: rutting test and low temperature bending test. Under the optimum conditions of asphalt mixture fiber content and asphalt aggregate ratio, the best suitable length of asphalt mixture with basalt fiber is determined by comparing the high temperature stability and low temperature crack resistance of asphalt mixture with basalt fiber of 3mm, 6mm and 9mm.

According to the experiment of oil absorption rate of basalt fiber, once the type of fiber is determined, its physical property constant will be fixed. In view of this condition, the oil absorption amount of fiber depends on the amount of fiber added. The same fiber content and different fiber length have little effect on the optimum asphalt aggregate ratio of asphalt mixture. Therefore, for asphalt mixture with 3 mm, 6 mm, 9 mm basalt fiber, the best fiber content is 0.3%, and the best asphalt aggregate ratio of mixture is 5.0%. The rutting test is carried out according to the above conditions.

The dynamic stability of asphalt mixture with basalt fiber is higher than that of plain asphalt concrete, which can be increased by 34.2%; The results show that the dynamic stability of asphalt mixture mixed with 6 mm long fiber is the highest, while the dynamic stability of asphalt mixture with 9 mm fiber is lower than that of 6 mm fiber, because the dispersion of fiber decreases with the increase of fiber length; therefore, it is very beneficial to select the appropriate fiber elongation for the role of fiber.
